Mapletree Investments has commenced the construction of a new logistics facility in China to expand its presence in the country's real estate space.

The proposed facility, known as Mapletree (Zhengzhou) International Logistics Park (MZILP), has a floor area of 81,000sq m developed on 133,000sq m of industrial land featuring four blocks of single-storey warehouses.

Mapletree has pre-leased about 50% of the development to a third-party logistics operator while another 20% of the space will be acquired by an international retailer and an industrial conglomerate.

Mapletree CEO Hiew Yoon Khong said, "With its strategic location in Zhengzhou and easy access to key transportation networks, the park is ideally located for regional distribution purposes serving this economically vibrant market."

Recently, Mapletree signed two memorandums of understandings to develop a logistics park in Wujiang, Suzhou, and acquire a land plot of about 224,000sq m in Fengdong new district, Xi'an for another logistic development.

To date, Mapletree has developed five logistics parks in China in the cities of Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai and Wuxi, valued at over $200m.
