National Adoption Month means no more excuses : Be a Family ...

If you haven?t noticed already, November is National Adoption Month.? You are sure to see media attention, when not focused on elections, natural disasters or holidays, turned toward this topic.

Rita Soronen, president and CEO of the Dave Thomas Foundation, has much to say about adoption month. More than a proclamation or an awareness campaign, we must consider this a call to action. You can read her recent blog post here.?

I agree with her. At Buckner, we don?t merely hope that you become aware of the concept of adoption, the need shared by over 6,000 children in the Texas foster care system right now. No, we want you to take action.

For those of us motivated by our faith, we must realize at some point that we are compelled to respond because of the adoption we have received through Christ. Watch this?great video featuring Francis Chan and he?ll tell you more about this motivation.?

I?m declaring that the time for excuses is over.? Are any of these yours?
??I?ve never been a parent before.
??I?m afraid.
??I couldn?t risk having a child leave my home.
??I don?t know where to start.
??I?m not that skilled or talented.
??I?m unable to adopt, so there?s nothing more I can do.

The ranks of Buckner foster and adoptive families are filled with families who once gave in to these same excuses. Our staff can help you answer any questions. We will equip you with skills and support you as you begin to practice them. We can help you support other families.

Take a few minutes and watch the stories of the following families.
Foster to Adopt: The Yoder Family
Intercountry adoption: The?Sturm Family
Domestic infant adoption: The Duncan Family

If you are a family ?on the fence? about adoption, foster care or some sort of orphan care, let us know. We?ll walk with you.

Greg Eubanks is the Buckner Area Vice President for National Operations. As an adoptive parent and an adoptive uncle, he is passionate about how Buckner ministries throughout the U.S. help to build strong families, whether through foster care, adoption or a host of other services that prevent families from ever having to separate. He has been with Buckner since 1994.
