ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) ? Michael Phelps is getting another chance to show off his funny side. And he'll have some help from the glibbest man in golf.
The most decorated Olympian will team up with David Feherty for a special Ryder Cup-themed edition of "Feherty Live" next week. The show, which will be taped in front of a live audience, will air on the Golf Channel on Wednesday, two days before the Ryder Cup begins at Medinah in suburban Chicago.
"I'm excited to meet the funniest man in golf, but knowing David, I have a sneaky suspicion that my conversation with him won't be anything like the years of poolside interviews I have done," Phelps said Thursday in a release.
Feherty's sharp wit and relaxed interview style have made him one of the most popular analysts in golf. In the first two seasons of "Feherty," he's interviewed everyone from President Bill Clinton to Hall of Fame basketball player Bill Russell to current world No. 1 Rory McIlroy.
Famous for his intense drive and focus in the pool ? not to mention those 22 Olympic medals ? Phelps showed a lighter side when he hosted "Saturday Night Live" following the Beijing Games. Fans will get to see a lot more of that now that he's retired. In addition to the show with Feherty, Phelps has signed on to be Hank Haney's latest pupil in "The Haney Project."
Haney, the former swing coach of Tiger Woods, has previously worked with actor Ray Romano, Charles Barkley and radio host Rush Limbaugh in the television series, which is in its fifth season. Last year, Haney worked with four celebrities, including former boxing great Sugar Ray Leonard.
"Michael Phelps," Feherty cracked, "may be the only golfer for whom water is not a hazard."
