The California State Assembly last week recognized eBay Inc.?s efforts in support of Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) education for young women.

State Assemblymember Jerry Hill (AD-19) introduced House Resolution 34, which recognizes the Dare 2B Digital Conference, co-sponsored by eBay Inc., among outreach programs that are fostering more girls, women, and underrepresented minorities to consider STEM opportunities.

In partnership with Invent Your Future, Oracle and others, eBay hosted the Dare 2B Digital Conference at its San Jose North Campus in February. More than 420 young women, parents and industry mentors from around the Bay Area came to explore robotics, programming, blogging, e-commerce, collaboration software, networking and Internet security.

Irena Halsey, the Head of eBay Inc.?s Global Women?s Initiative, joined Ruth Stergiou of Invent Your Future and Lise Edwards and Staci Lyons of Oracle on the floor of the state assembly for the event. HR 34 passed unanimously and was met with great enthusiasm.

?Today at the Capitol we received a standing ovation from the assembly ? a very proud moment to have eBay recognized as a leader/partner in STEM education,? Irena said.

The resolution notes that as California has the most high-tech businesses in the nation, along with a high concentration of venture capital, STEM education is ?a key to the state?s economic future.?
