All the 11th-Hour iPad 3 Rumors Fit to Print

The clock is ticking down on Apple's big product event in San Francisco, widely believed to be the launch party for the next-generation iPad tablet. As with all things Apple, the rumors are rampant as to what we should expect.

We've run down most of those rumors before (and before that as well), but here's a final look at the 11th-hour gossip ahead of Wednesday's unveiling.

What's in a name?

The "iPad HD" bandwagon is gaining some steam. Gizmodo reported earlier this month that Apple will slap this moniker on the new tablet instead of the more widely assumed "iPad 3" as a nod to the higher resolution Retina display the device is supposedly sporting. Now several sites say they've confirmed with sources that Apple's new tablet will be called the iPad HD.

Forward to LTE

There's more to back up the rumor that the new iPad will be Apple's first iOS device to support 4G-LTE. Names are actually being named, as in carriers?Verizon and AT&T are each going to be offering their own LTE version of the tablet, according to Slashgear.

Worth the (Very Short) Wait

Apple fans won't have long at all to wait to get their hands on the new iPad after it's revealed, according to 9to5Mac. The blog says an Apple Store source has confirmed that a big retail event is being planned for March 16, possibly validating earlier rumors that the new tablet will go on sale just nine days after Wednesday's unveiling at the Yerba Buena Center.

TV or No TV?

But 9to5Mac also seemed to back away from its own earlier reporting that a new Apple TV will be launched alongside the new iPad. There's apparently some buzz about a separate Apple product launch event to be held a week after Wednesday's get-together and the blog wonders if that might be a coming out party for the Apple's next-generation television product?whatever that may be, because now some sites are reporting that the new Apple TV will be another set-top box and not a full-blown television as previously reported.

The Chips Are Down

There's been a lot of speculation that the new iPad will have a quad-core, ARM-based System-on-a-Chip (SoC) dubbed the A6. Not gonna happen, reports the Verge, which claims that the new tablet will sport a processor called "the A5X, a dual-core SoC said to have a more powerful GPU ... basically an A5 on steroids."
