Washington State University invites applications for the full-time, 12-month, tenure-track position of Science and Instruction Librarian.? This position will be primarily responsible for providing research services in the science, engineering and agriculture disciplines.? Performing instruction and liaison activities to assigned departments and serving as a selector of material for those disciplines are both primary job duties.? Assigned Liaison areas will depend upon qualifications of the successful candidate. ?In addition, depending upon qualifications, this position may have lead responsibility for the map collection and GIS related services in the Owen Science and Engineering Library. This position also has the opportunity to be a part of a fledgling eScience initiative at the WSU Libraries. The Washington State University Libraries has a hybrid organizational structure that relies on a traditional unit based structure in concert with a team based approach to successfully meet the needs of the Washington State University community.? This position will report to the Associate Dean of Libraries.? ?Research Services is a dynamic and collaborative environment made up of the Access Services Unit, Instruction Team, Reference Team and Liaison Team.? This position is located on the Pullman campus.

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • As a member of the Liaison Team this position is responsible for designing, delivering and/or assessing liaison and outreach services to academic departments and student support services.? This includes specialized reference and instruction activity that is performed by the subject specialists.?? Team members work to promote and deliver Library services and resources, and support university affiliates to develop positive public relations with faculty, departments, and colleges. (50%)?
  • As a member of the Library Instruction Team, the Science and Instruction Librarian will be involved in designing, delivering and/or assessing information literacy instruction.? Team members directly handle general undergraduate instruction and create materials for use at all levels of instruction, work with distance students and serve special constituencies campus-wide. (25%)
  • As a member of the Reference team, ?delivers comprehensive reference assistance to library users face to face and virtually, participates in the development of reference policies and assessment, keeps current on pertinent issues, works effectively and cooperatively with colleagues to provide high-quality reference services,? and maintains a professional presence in all reference transactions. (25%)

Scholarship, Service, & Professional Development:

Participate in appropriate scholarship, faculty governance, and service as a library faculty member; engage in library-wide initiatives as appropriate; maintain current awareness of trends and advancements in academic/science librarianship, and actively participates in appropriate meetings and organizations.
